This series of glass sculptures was inspired by the pandemic described by JG Ballard in his book Crystal World. The sculptures are made by sandblasting secondhand domestic glassware, bought in house clearance shops.
As if eaten by disease or termites, the domestic items becomes useless, unable to function as vessels. The sculptures are ghost objects, skeletons of their former selves, historic residue of a collapsed society.
The artworks were made in 2015 during an Arts Council funded residency at GlassHub. As a part of the residency, Luke also made the Invisible Homeless sculpture and carried out many glass tests and experiments.
