'Play me, I'm yours' goes to Brazil. In March 2008 fifteen pianos were delivered to the streets of Birmingham. Located in skate parks, industrial estates, laundrettes, precincts, bus shelters and train stations, outside pubs and football grounds, the street pianos were free for any member of the public to enjoy and claim ownership of.
Who played them and how long they remained was up to each community. Provoking the public to engage and take ownership of their urban environment the project asks, who owns public space and who decides the rules for its use? Connecting communities across the city www.streetpianos.com was made for the public to post comments and describe the pianos use. Read this great story in the Guardian by Maev Kennedy. Contemplation SpaceWorking in collaboration with FACT in Liverpool a series of artworks are being made for the waiting rooms of Everton Health Care Centre. Whilst waiting in a doctors surgery many people ask themselves, what brought them to this place and what does the future have in store for them? One installation presents high quality live webcamera views of serene landscapes from around the world which reflect the ethnic diversity of Everton. Creating external windows for contemplation viewers may get a sense of the world turning as the live images slowly shift from day to night. |
